If you did not get enough "Tango Buenos Aires" at the Gallo Arts Center last week, our Video of the Week features lead dancers Gustavo Rosas and Gisela Natoli.
In January at the Fat Cat will host an evening of tango, mostly Piazzolla, but some suitable for dancing by Quarteto Latinoamericano.

Peter's class focused on "paradas" and "mordidas"; he will end his rotation Saturday. A Thanksgiving break follows,

CALENDAR FOR THE WEEK

MONDAY - Tonight. Nov. 12: Practice and social dancing at Jacobs, 2501 McHenry. A chance to work on moves learned in class and get floor time. No fee, but you are urged to order off the menu. We start about 8 p.m. An informal meeting; some come early to dine. We may dance to 10 p.m. See Monday at Jacobs

SATURDAY - (Nov. 17): Classes at Modesto Fitness and Racquet Club.
200 Norwegian, off McHenry. Peter Baldridge teaching.
11 a.m. Intermediate - focus on paradas and mordidas.
12:30 - Beginner - Intermediates encouraged to stay; no additional fee. An opportunity to perfect your technique. $12 a class per person. Introductory packages available for newcomers which offer nine beginner level classes for $75 (can only be used as the beginner level.)

Level I - Beginning Tango - Tuesdays 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Level II - Intermediate Tango - Tuesdays 7:30-8:30 p.m.
Level III - Intermediate/Advanced - Tuesdays 8:30-9:30 p.m.
Classes taught by Donna Williams and Zak Brown.
Cost is $50 per person/$90 per couple for each series.

THURSDAY:
ED AND REBECA teach "Tango: Outside the Box." An intensive 90 -minute class followed by a práctica means three hours of tango. It's $50 a person/$90 a couple for the month; drop-in rate is $15 Practica only is $5. This month they teach milonga.
'Rubén Milonga' Comes to Sacramento!
"Rubén Milonga", tango historian who focuses on preserving Argentine tango of the "golden years" (1937-60), will be at Tango by the River Nov. 23, 24 & 25. Raised in Buenos Aires, he began tangoing in his teens. He has performed and taught in London, Lausanne, Poland, Korea, and Tango University, Buenos Aires.
In Sacramento, Ruben will present audio/visual lectures on the history of tango music as well as tango dance. He will teach workshops in milonga, and two dances that pre-dated tango, canyengue and milonga candombeada. His schedule:

Friday, Nov. 23: 7:45-9:15 p.m.
History of tango music as a popular expression up to 1960 (audio/visual lecture).

Saturday, Nov. 24: 2:30-4 p.m.
From tango to the milonga in a few easy steps. Playing and changing weight on the beats (transition from tango to milonga).

Saturday, Nov. 24: 4:30-6 p.m.
Milonga madness: (don't ask, just come and enjoy).

Sunday, Nov. 25: noon-1:30 p.m.
History of tango as a popular dance in Buenos Aires (1860-1960) (audio/visual lecture).

Sunday, Nov. 25: 2-3:30 p.m.
Canyengue Fundamentals: embrace, connection, soul.
Sunday, Nov. 25: 4-5:30 p.m.
Milonga Candombeada: Discover the pleasure of milonga's Afro roots

Gato & Andrea will take our Modesto group to Buenos Aires
There is still time to register for the 13- day trip starting July 11. They have the minimum eight with room for six more, a maximum of 14.
July 12-25th 2008 - their winter. Cost: $1500 per person without air fares if registered in the first period. $1650 for the people who register later. See below:

3rd payment: $500 per person paid by bank deposit to Gato and Andrea to May 31.

Second period (late registration): $1650 per person without air fares
Deposit: $650 per person (cash) paid directly to Gato and Andrea while teaching in Modesto from February 1st to March 31st 2008 (receipt will be given).
Balance: $1000 per person paid by bank deposit to Gato and Andrea up to May 31.
