Gato & Andrea will provide a series of workshops designed to build upon and consolidate the skills learned at our September Weekend. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from these masters of Argentine Tango right here in Modesto. Prior attendance at the Weekend Workshops though beneficial is not mandatory. (N.B., there will be an additional $10 discount off the Series price for students who attended two Weekend Workshops.)

The Cost is $30.00 per Class or $75.00 for the series of 3 classes.

Tuesday, October 3 - 8:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

Technique for men and women (all levels):


We will go over changes of weight, complete molinettes, double time and balance exercises, low and high voleos; pivots, lapiz and enrosque exercises for leaders; embellishments for leaders and followers. $30.00
Thursday, October 5 - 8:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

Tango (intermediate to advanced):


We will study "barridas", sacadas, forward voleos, (simple ganchos if there is time), embellishments and combinations. $30.00

Tuesday, October 10 - 8:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

Vals (intermediate to advanced dancers):


We will start with simple patterns to introduce students to this new rhythm, then add specific turns for vals and double time patterns and turns. $30.00

Modesto Tango is a non-profit association of
tango aficionados dedicated to sharing the
artistic, cultural and social aspects of
Argentine Tango in Stanislaus County.

Our weekend with Gato & Andrea is here! It
starts on Saturday, September 30, with three
workshops in the day and a milonga in the evening
at Jacobs. Then three more workshops Sunday. See
schedule below.

For the more ambitious, a series of workshops are
added on the following Tuesday, Thursday &
Tuesday (Oct. 3, 5 & 10). Information about

These workshops will present a quick tour of the
richness of tango. G & A have more than 25
years combined teaching experience and have
performed in 20 countries. Their expertise
covers all facets of tango. They are friendly and
speak English. Their teaching style is based on
mastery of posture, balance, axis, weight
changes, rhythm and especially tango walk. They
emphasize interpretation of the music and
expression of emotion in dance. Gato Valdez
performed professionally in 1984 with the
Pugliese Orchestra in the film "Tangos, el Exilio
de Gardel" . He also appeared in other films,
such as "Gracias Maestro", "Evita" and "The
Tango Lesson".
Andrea's technique is flawless and she can spot
and correct a problem in an instant. And as a
special treat, a preview of Gato & Andrea dancing
to "Nueve de Julio"

separately at their own level or on material they
prefer. Limited with pre-registration, it will
not be open to drop in students. You don't need
to be a "couple" in any other sense of the term,
you just need to be willing to commit to working
together in class for the month.

Twenty-Something Tango at 6:30-7:45 p.m. Anyone
with a young attitude is welcome!
Class is appropriate for people interested in
learning the fundamentals of Argentine tango.
No partner required, but bringing a friend is
encouraged to ensure gender balance.
Taught by Chris Peake & Emily Trites. Cost:
College student $25/session (with valid ID). Non
college-student $35/session.
Tango Practica with Zak Brown. Zak hosts a guided
practica on Thursdays from 8 to 10 p.m. Cost
only $3,
an excellent way to get the floor time needed to
practice your tango--with an instructor's help!

Modesto Tango is a non-profit association of
tango aficionados dedicated to sharing the
artistic, cultural and social aspects of
Argentine Tango in Stanislaus County.

Michelle led a great class on basic techniques
last Saturday. Roman returns Saturday, Sept.
23, our last class before our weekend with Gato
and Andrea. Again, intermediates are encouraged
to consider private lessons. The patterns that
Roman teaches require understanding and
technique. He finds it difficult to move us into
a higher level with eloquence. His private
lesson fee is $70; he pays the studio fee if you
use Ruby's studio. He is available Saturday from
8:30 or after class, and is willing to stay late
on Saturday.

I am accepting pre-registration for the Gato &
Andrea workshops, and will accept them until
Tuesday, Sept. 26. The workshops will present a

Bulletin Sept. 11

Modesto Tango is a non-profit association of
tango aficionados dedicated to sharing the

Argentine Tango in Stanislaus County.

Roman will be on vacation Saturday (Sept. 16).
Michelle Loughlin of Sacramento will substitute.
Michelle has been involved with the Sacramento
tango community, teaching classes which emphasize
women's technique, since 1999. Her dancing is
precise, yet playful, and she has been called
"Pretty Feet". - So ladies, here is a good chance
to learn how to add a little extra flavor (or
spice!) to your dance. Men will benefit by
learning how to enhance and encourage partner's
creative individuality.

Anyone with a young attitude is welcome! Class
is appropriate for people interested in learning

required, but bringing a friend is encouraged to
ensure gender balance. Taught by Chris Peake &
Emily Trites. Cost: College student $25/session
(with valid ID) Non college-student $35/session.
Tango Practica with Zak Brown.
Zak hosts a guided practica on Thursday nights
from 8 to 10 p.m. Cost only $3, an excellent
way to get the floor time needed to practice your
tango--with an instructor's help! Parking is
free on the streets after 8 p.m.

Modesto Tango Bulletin, Sept. 3

Modesto Tango is a non-profit association of
tango aficionados dedicated to sharing the
artistic, cultural and social aspects of
Argentine Tango in Stanislaus County.

Tango classes resume Saturday, Sept 9. There
will be three Saturdays in September before our
weekend with Gato & Andrea. Those wishing to
commit to all three weeks may pay in advance at
$10 a week ($30 for the month, Sept. 9, 16 & 23)
Roman returns with his emphasis on technique and
elegance. Again, intermediates are encouraged
to consider private lessons. Patterns Roman will
teach require understanding and technique. He
finds it difficult to move us into a higher level
with eloquence. His private lesson fee is $70;
he pays the studio fee if you use Ruby's
studio. He is available Saturday from 8:30 or
after class, and is willing to stay late on
Saturday.

We're revving up for our weekend with Gato &
Andrea. Mark your calendars for Sept. 30 - Oct.
1, the milonga on Saturday, Sept. 30. Private
lessons will be available Friday through Monday.

about 8 p.m. An informal gathering; some arrive
early to dine. We may dance until 10 p.m.

off McHenry. Intermediates 11 a.m. Beginners
(i.e. basics) 12:30 p.m welcoming newcomers.
