A new program for the Saturday classes! For July, Peter Baldrige and Jerry Sue Hooper will teach.
The format of the Saturday classes is:
11:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. "Tango Fundamentals"

The first class will encompass an hour of instruction from 11 a.m. to noon, followed by a 15 minute practica. The Continuing Tango class will start with that 15 minute practica, followed by an hour and fifteen minute class. We think this new format will be especially useful for beginners (in giving them a chance to really practice following the first class) as well as a solid hour and a quarter class for the intermediates and above to really cover a topic.

Gustavo Naveira y Giselle Anne - Palomita blanca -Tangomagia

Tango performance by Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne at the Tangomagia festival in Amsterdam, December 29, 2007.
Second encore: Palomita blanca, by Troilo

As a child, Gustavo heard his father sing this song. His dad isn't around anymore, but not too long ago Gustavo heard the song again, and found it was marvellous.

Bulletin June 16 , 2008

Our early morning TV appearance on Channel 31 with Alan Sanchez last Monday can be seen by clicking onto http://cbs13.com/video . Type in "a lesson in tango" once you get on that page.

This week is our monthly Art Walk Milonga at Concetta's
Also at this month's Art Walk we have an invitation by Jeff Schweicker, who many of us remember from some years back, to view his display of torso sculptures at 'Crow Trading Co.,' 1208 J Street.

Peter's class was about"expression in the feet." He will finish the month essentially building on concepts that Oscar and Georgina gave in their classes in Modesto.

Our Video of the Week is from an Oscar & Georgina instructional DVD about walking in rhythmic tango. The lesson, in Spanish, speaks of projecting the step forward and changing weight in place. Even if you don't understand you can learn much just watching.

Gallo Arts Center asks us to participate in a survey of Modesto entertainment options. The results would impact booking local entertainment at venues like the Gallo Center. Please mention that you found out through HLC Board of Directors.
Entrants can win $100, $250 or $500. The deadline to participate is June 30. Responses are confidential; winners will be notified by July 15. Go to: www.surveymonkey.com/CVEntertainmentsurvey
Details: Raul Garcia, Community Engagement Coordinator/Gallo Center (209) 338-5020 rgarcia@galloarts.org

With many of us in Buenos Aires with Gato & Andrea, there will be no classes in July. Jacobs, however, will remain open to those needing a tango fix on Mondays.

Bulletin June 2 , 2008

Oscar & Georgina put on an awesome performance at Jacobs Friday. The next day's workshops were indeed workouts. Those who missed both are indeed losers - Excellent teachers and technicians, they can spot little problems immediately. Oscar will be available for workshops in Sacramento. Schedule for that follows.

Our Video of the Week gives us a parting look at Oscar and Georgina

Peter's classes start Saturday. Watching us dance at the milonga and in workshops, Oscar offered ideas on what to cover in class, just the input Peter had asked. So for the next few weeks we will continue work Oscar started last weekend.

For a little TV exposure, we are invited to the Channel 31 morning show with Alan Sanchez next Monday (June 9) at 7 a.m. The venue will be either Jacobs or the YMCA across the street. School should be out and this could be a fun way to start the morning - come dressed to dance, thought not as fancy as for a dressy milonga.
