Bulletin, March 30, 2009

Sean & Charity introduced beginners to "ochos" and intermediates to "molinetes" with a "lapiz" and "parada".  Patrick will fill in for them this Saturday.  They will return after Easter. On the first Saturday of the month the option of paying for the month at $10 a week will be available. No class Easter week, so  the month will be $30.
In May, a "Tango, First Century"performance will follow a free outdoor milonga, Friday & Saturday, May 15 & 16.
We will try for group tickets for both evenings.


CALENDAR FOR THE  WEEK

MONDAY - Tonight, March 30 & April 6, Social dancing and practica at Jacobs, 8 p.m., 2501 McHenry Avenue. A good place to practice class material.  ALL levels encouraged.  No fee, but you're urged to buy food and/or drink.  Come early to eat.

SATURDAY -April 4, regular ongoing classes at Modesto Fitness & Racquet Club, 200 Norwegian -   Patrick teaching.
Beginner level 11 a.m. - noon,  Supervised practica till 12:15
Intermediate level: 12:15 - 1:15 p.m. - Supervised practica till 2 p.m.
$12 a lesson, intermediate students encouraged to attend both lessons at no additional fee,  to work on technique and be there for the beginners.  Practica only $5 - included in lesson.  Pay $30 for the month of April ($10 a week).  Introductory packages available  on a one time only basis for $75, include 9 lessons, only usable at the beginner level.

Jennifer believes contact facilitates communication profound beyond words. Emphasizing technique,  employing vivid images,  she focuses on posture, connection and musicality.  She advises followers to develop the balance between being too light and too heavy.

Ney  is known for innovative teaching methods and passion for teaching. His instruction is sought by beginning and advanced dancers,  teachers and choreographers around the world.  He  has studied tango with masters  of Villa Urquiza  tango.

The Incomparable Facundo Posadas
Returns  Mar 5-8, 2009:
Facundo Posadas, an icon in the Argentine Tango world, is the only Afro-Argentine on tour to share the roots of this dance by teaching Milonga and Candombe.  Robert Farris Thompson calls Facundo in his book Tango:The Art History of Love "today's master of Argentine tango, milonga, and jazz dance." He tells the rich history of the Posadas family dating to the 1800s. Facundo starting dancing early and enjoyed it in Buenos Aires all his life, dancing with many great orchestras   Since 1997 he has traveled extensively teaching and performing at festivals and tango communities around the world . He has also been in six films including Tango The Obsession which he narrates, Tango Un Giro Extranio, Despabilate Amor Afro-Argentinos, Negro Che and El Cafe de Los Maestros (by Gustavo Santaolaya filmed in the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires).  He has also been featured in many television shows for Buenos Aires television as well as the BBC in London.
