2. Two days before our milonga at Jacobs, we will have our "mini-milonga/practica" at Deva, 1202 J Street, Art Walk Tango at Deva Our gathering will take place again at 7:30 p.m. to coincide with "art walk," an event put on by the downtown art galleries, who stay open on the third Thursday of the month so that people can walk from one gallery to the other. Last month when "art walk" had been cancelled due to it's proximity to Christmas, our group filled up the cafe, Deva is a popular downtown eatery, so we can expect to see art lovers drop in and hopefully get a good taste of Argentine Tango.
3. To whet your appetite for the Riobo workshops, see the Video of the Week , in which Oscar and Mary Ann Casas demonstrate adding sweeps and "toe touching" to the Ocho Cortado. SACRAMENTO
SATURDAY, JANUARY 27! - At Tango by the River, 128 J Street, Old Sacramento.
LIVE MUSIC WITH PARLOR TANGO!!! Every year or so are we fortunate enough to get to dance to live tango music. Parlor Tango comes very highly rated. They are dedicated to traditional Argentine tango music composed between 1910 and 1950. Its repertoire of tangos, waltzes and milongas evokes the flavor of black-and-white movies and steamy dance halls. Indeed, Ed Loomis says that Parlor Tango is one of those rare groups that actually gets the traspie rhythms correct in milonga ... so don't miss this wonderful opportunity! As always, there will be a beginning tango lesson from 8:00-9:00 p.m., then dance from 9:00 - midnight. Cost is $15 and includes lesson, dance (to live tango music!), refreshments and appetizers!
