Bulletin Jan. 8, 2007

Normal life resumes. Our new year got off to a nice start with Patrick's class focusing on improvisation, and our practica is on at Jacobs again. As we rev up for our milonga with Roberto Riobo on Saturday, January 20, (with workshops to follow), we also look to our mini-milonga/practica at Deva, (1202 J Street) on Thursday, Jan. 18. Also, Roman will offer private lessons in Modesto on Saturday. He has two openings before Patrick's class. He can be reached at: rzapata@comcast.net, or call his cell phone: 916-425 2395

Also in this bulletin.

1. Roberto Riobo to D.J. our next milonga and conduct workshops on Sunday.
2. The video of the week stars Javier Rodriguez y Andrea Misse in Buenos Aires in January 2006.
1. Roberto Riobo, one of the Bay Area's most popular and respected teachers, will conduct workshops on Sunday, Janurary 21, the day after our next milonga, at the Modesto Fitness & Racquet Club, where we have regular Saturday classes. The classes will be:
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. All levels including beginners:
A workshop to introduce the history, look, style and sound of Argentine tango. Learn how to "connect" to the music, your partners, and the people who share the dance floor. Beginners: Take this workshop and start dancing! Current tango dancers: deepen your dance and pick up your practice.
1 to 3 p.m. Intermediate:
Explore the mysteries of tango communication, developing eloquent feet and improved balance. Learn how to resolve one dance movement into another in a continuous flow of tango improvisations
with "sweeps" and "toe touching." Workshop fee $30 per class per student. Attached is a flier. Make copies and distribute.

2.The video features Villa Urqiza Style Tango - Villa Urquiza is a Buenos Aires barrio. Many barrios developed their own tango styles when getting from one milonga to another was more difficult. In this video Javier Rodriguez y Andrea Misse improvise to DiSarli's Corazon at the Italia Unita milonga in Buenos Aires in January 2006.

LIVE MUSIC WITH PARLOR TANGO!!! Every year or so are we fortunate enough to get to dance to live tango music. Parlor Tango comes very highly rated. They are dedicated to traditional Argentine tango music composed between 1910 and 1950. Its repertoire of tangos, waltzes and milongas evokes the flavor of black-and-white movies and steamy dance halls. Indeed, Ed Loomis says that Parlor Tango is one of those rare groups that actually gets the traspie rhythms correct in milonga ... so don't miss this wonderful opportunity! As always, there will be a beginning tango lesson from 8:00-9:00 p.m., then dance from 9:00 - midnight. Cost is $15 and includes lesson, dance (to live tango music!), refreshments and appetizers!
