You could be the next American Argentine Tango Champion, and win a round trip to Buenos Aires  and a free stay to represent the USA at the Semifinal Round at the "Tango Buenos Aires Festival y Mundial de Baile 2011" in August 2011.
Competitors can participate in the "Salon Tango" category, which aims to enrich the dance as a typical porteño practice, and/or the "Stage Tango" category, which aims to enrich the dance from a choreographic point of view related to the performance as a show.
In the Salon Tango Category, couples   compete in groups, dancing three pieces   selected by the Committee.
In the Stage Tango Category, each couple   competes individually, dancing to a choreographed song of their choice.

TANGO WORKSHOPS WITH MIRABAI DERANJA!
All classes are  90 minutes and intermediate level (unless otherwise specified)
1-2:30 p.m - Women's Technique  (Open to all levels / men welcome),  focused specifically on tricks  and helpful positions to make your lines better. Develop  the technique necessary to execute the movement exactly as you wish.

2:45-4:15 p.m. - Alterations
We pride ours being  improvisational but patterns that emerge frequently can be manipulated to make them hardly recognizable as stemming from the original.

4:30-6 p.m. - Out of axis tango
Although colgadas are one of the most advanced movements in tango, it's surprising how easy some can be. Practice dance into the colgada gracefully and exit with ease.

 SUNDAY
Sacramento
Mar. 20. The Firehouse 5 -  2014 B 9th Street *near T Tt*
TANGO WORKSHOPS WITH MIRABAI DERANJA!
1-2:30 p.m. - In axis tango
This teaches intricate footwork to spice up your dancing and maintain elegant subtlety, designed to help you execute movement with precision and grace.

2:45-4:15 p.m. - Tango-Waltz
Waltz can seem difficult because of the timing. We work adapt tango knowledge to waltz timing  Vals done correctly feels of swirling around the floor together.
4:30-6 p.m. - Micro-tango
A couple dancing in perfect union is amazing.More amazing is what you don't see. The lead is so subtle that it becomes invisible from the outside.  The workshop will help  develop technique needed to lead and follow with this subtlety.  Specifically,  focus on the connection between the leader's intention and the follower's response.

$25 = one class, $40 = two classes, $60 = 3 classes, $75 = 4 classes, $85 = 5 classes, $90 = All 6 classes

Bulletin, February 28, 2011

Modesto Tango Bulletin, Feb. 28, 2011

Early registration deadline for the Tango USA festival is today. This offers noted visiting tango masters and workshops plus a chance to watch the  2011 Tango World Cup competition. The official USA branch of the world tango championship in the area is a coup for California. Gato & Andrea have organized this, and Andrea invites us to challenge ourselves while having fun! All can register and compete.  She says encourage yourself to show what you learned since you began  tango.  You can participate in "Salon Tango," stressing social aspects of the dance, or/and in "Stage Tango" category. There are nine competing couple passes to choose from! Check out www.argentinetangousa.com. More info follows

In Modesto, we have been in contact with the owner of Azucar, a restaurant at J & 10th Streets which offers many Latin dance events, including one yesterday celebrating Xavier Gomez's birthday including some tango.  We spoke of a monthly tango event every second Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m., the first March 13.  With a heavy emphasis on tango we think of alternate dance tandas - sort of takes us back to Buenos Aires when dance halls would hire two bands to spell each-other.  One, of course, a tango orchestra, the other, either swing or "tropical" - So not knowing tango should be no excuse to stay away if you do other dances.

SUNDAY - March 13,  3:00-6:00  @ AZUCAR  on 10th and J Sts.
<http://azucarmodesto.com/>http://azucarmodesto.com/ With a heavy emphasis on tango, we will dance to alternating tandas of tango, and other dance styles.

Modesto Tango Bulletin, Feb. 21, 2011

The early registration deadline for the Tango USA festival is near. This will offer well known visiting tango masters and workshops plus a chance to watch the  2011 Tango World Cup competition. Early bird festival pre-registration closes Feb. 28. The official USA branch of the world tango championship in the area is a  coup.
Andrea invites us to challenge ourselves while having fun! All can register and  compete.  She says encourage yourself to show what you  learned since you started  tango.  You can participate in "Salon Tango" which stresses social aspects of the dance or/and in "Stage Tango" category. There are nine competing couple passes to choose from! check out www.argentinetangousa.com. More info follows

Here in Modesto, we began work on molinetes, a move we spend the  rest of our tango lives perfecting, yet one of the first encountered in the social setting.
