Modesto Tango Bulletin, Oct. 25, 2010

Classes  Saturday, Oct. 30, are cancelled. Enjoy Halloween.

We resume classes a week later, Nov. 6. Roman will teach the first two weeks of November and the first two of December. Roman was one of Modesto Tango's first instructors  - pegged as "the elegant one"  He will join us with his partner, Sherri.

Mario Molina of Cordoba , Argentina, who was such a  hit at our milonga two weeks ago will conduct workshops here in Modesto - Most likely on Sunday, November 14. Make a note. We will want pre-registrations, and you will not want to miss this.

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, Jan. 12, when Tango Buenos Aires returns  to the Gallo Center with a pre-show milonga in the lobby.

CALENDAR FOR THE WEEK

MONDAY - Tonight, Oct. 25 & Nov. 1.  Social dancing and practica at Jacobs Fine Dining, 2501 McHenry.  No fee, but you could order food or drink off the new menu, the "Blue Sage Bistro". A good place to practice class material.

WEDNESDAY - Oct. 27.  Beginner class at Modesto Senior Center, 211 Bodem St. at Scenic.  3 p.m.  No fee. Earlier in the day, Dennis and I will demonstrate tango for the City Parks and Recreation Department, one at the Bodem Center, and at the Maddux Youth Center -

SATURDAY - Oct. 30 - Classes cancelled .
Normally we meet at Sophia's Dance Journey, 711 10th St. (between G & H).  Introductory classes 11 a.m. - Intermediate  and advanced class at 12:30 p.m.
$12 per person per class, drop in.

Level III (Advanced) Tango.  7-8:30  followed by practice time. You need at least three months of tango to attend. Taught in close embrace, so you need the technique to  effectively dance in close embrace. You must be able to lead or follow the eight-count basic, ochos, and turns (giros or molinetes).

A practilonga is a combination of a milonga and a practica. Practice steps you've  learned in class,  or just dance the night away. The event is informal without a dress code.  8-11 p.m. (or until the DJ shuts it down). Cost is $5.

Nov. 11, 12, 13, In Sacramento for the first time!  Norberto 'El Pulpo' Esbrez,
king of ganchos,  called El Pulpo or 'octopus' for his fluid, intricate leg movements.
His dance and technique is based on communication and understanding with his partner, characterized by continuous, round, soft movements.
