Nothing major this week, but a good chance to practice tango coming up at Urbano's this Tuesday (Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras)


Coming up on Sunday, May 21, the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast at the Seasons on 945 McHenry.  Why does this matter? Well, one of our newest member, Anthony Butera, well connected to the Kiwanis has asked for a milonga in connection with the breakfast, so as we have a chance to contribute to a good cause ($8 buys our breakfast) we get to dance the rest of the morning, from 9 a.m. to noon.  Afternoon milongas are not that uncommon, but a morning breakfast milonga will likely break a mold, so, come one, come all and be involved in this mold-breaking.

  CALENDAR FOR THE WEEK

 

TUESDAY:  Weekly practica  at Urbano California Bistro, Come to dine, socialize and dance.  This is a good time to practice what was covered in class.


 

WEDNESDAY: March 1,  Class  at  Modesto Senior Center,  211 Bodem Avenue   focusing  on tango basics.    2:45 / 3:45.  No fee. This week, by popular request, we will focus on milonga rhythm.


SATURDAY: March 4,  Class   at studio V.  4345 Spyres Way off Bangs

11 a.m.  TANGO BASICS  Cost $10

Christy Cloud will be the DJ for February  delicious refreshments & BYOB.   $10 pp.

Steve Lupi, assisted by Patricia Thaxter  teaches a beginner-level class,  tailored to newcomers with no experience as well as those interested in fine-tuning their existing basic skills— no partner necessary. Drop-in: $8 or get a 20-class card for $130. Call 916-635-2600 for more information.

(9 - 11pm: Step One Practica, $3, by Mike & Alisa, Step One is located at 1920 T St. It is a good place to practice as there are always regular good dancers there)

The Ballroom of Sacramento, 6009 Folsom Blvd. with Paul Zimny 7 p.m. Argentine Tango 1 - Introductory class explores Argentine Tango basics- progressive class - refreshes by calendar month. 8 p.m. Argentine Tango 2 - you just need to know the basics for a class that further explores the many possibilities for both leaders and followers - progressive class with new theme each calendar month


THURSDAY -

Mike & Alisa will be offering a tango class that will encompass all the concepts, skills and practice that will enable you to look and feel your best while expressing yourself through tango.  You will need to have completed at least the beginning class to take this class.

Danville:    

Blackhawk Tango, Sycamore club 635 Old Orchard Drive, 7:00 - 7:45 pm Beginner , Intermediate.  7:45-8:30 p.m. practica.  8:30- 10 pm  $10

The Dance Corner,  2927 Fulton Ave, Weekly Friday classes  from 7pm to 8pm (still $10 per class) followed by a Práctica from 8pm to 9pm to have more continuous floor time. The Práctica is free to class participants, or only $3 by itself.

This is a lovely dance venue with excellent floor, sound system, & lighting. There's lots of free, safe parking next to the studio. Questions? Please call 916-807-4210.

MILONGA being a specific rhythm, and NOT a "fast Tango", as some people comment. The secret of the MILONGA is the  HABANERA. Understand the HABANERA, to improve your MILONGA joyful experience.

We reviewed Andrea's class on ochos cortados, and will continue to work on them as we incorporate them into our dance repertoire.

Ourl Wednesday  class  at the Senior Center will be touching on milonga rhythm, by popular request.


We will also resume our practica at Urbano this week, so join us there for dining, socializing and dancing tango
