Ed Loomis had us working on milonga rhythms, making the class a lot of fun. Come to our Tuesdaypractica and take advantage of the chance to practice this fun dance

Next Saturday we welcome Carolyn and Christopher who will be guest teaching. Caroline and Christopher have been dancing and teaching tango for over thirty years with a focus on close embrace milonguero style, more appropriate for the social dance floor than exhibition. Christopher and Caroline have the incisive ability to analyze movement and help improve a student's technique on even the most subtle levels and are invited to teach at festivals all over the U.S. and abroad. Christopher frequently DJs at the popular El Valenciano Milonga.

General registration now open for BurningTango 2018--just click on the button below.

The festival works to maintain a gender balance, so registration to followers tends to get cut off early so, if you are interested, you should get your registration in early, and then stake out your place to stay, there are not too many of them in McCloud. Leaders and couples can usually procrastinate a bit on registration.

Until later, Mary

Coming Up

AT Gottschalk Music Center, On Saturday, August 12: Entrance at 1502 E Street. Door at 7:00 pm, Concert at &:30 Blue Tango Project:

Hailing from the colorful and gritty La Boca district of Buenos Aires, Blue Tango Project is a groundbreaking exploration of the emotional and musical crossroads where tango and the blues embrace. It is a collaboration between Argentine Latin Grammy nominee Maria Volonte and California harmonica player Kevin Carrel Footer, This globe -trotting duo celebrate the deep spiritual bond that joins tango and the blues, two musical genres born in desire and marginality, many times censored yet always resurgent and speaking directly to our hungry souls. When they play together, Maria's voice and guitar fill the stage with echoes of tango's forbidden pleasures, while Kevins harmonica whines with the lament of the solitary blues soul.

A vote was taken and Ed Loomis returns next Saturday, focusing his second class on milonga rhythms. The milonga, a more upbeat rhythm than tango, is not just a fast tango, and uses different techniques for moving to that particular rhythm. At a milonga (tango dance party) usually a sixth of the dances will be milonga rhythms, and they are a lot of fun to dance to, so don't miss out on this opportunity to be introduced to this dance. The first class will be focused on basic technique, and as Ed is one of the best technicians in the Central Valley, it would be a good class for all levels.

This weekend, the Burning Tango festival will open it's registration for the June 2018 event. The festival works to maintain a gender balance, so registration to followers tends to get cut off early. If you are interested, you will want to get your registration in early, and then stake out your place to stay, there are not too many of them in McCloud. Leaders and couples can usually procrastinate a bit on registration.
