9:00 p.m. - Midnight - Open dancing. The dance music will include recordings of Georgina's tango vocals.
10:15 p.m. - a performance by Oscar and Georgina. Bring your friends who are not dancers. They will love the performance.

These classes get you on your way to dancing Argentine Tango socially. In Level I, you learn fundamentals: basic elements of the tango walk and introduction of basic steps, emphasizing posture, leading and following skills, and interpreting the music. Level II focuses on pivots and turns, and how to apply steps learned so far into the social setting. Level III changes every month but always focuses on technique, musicality, and steps appropriate to the social milonga.

We enter a week of minimal tango - think of it as preparation for our weekend with Oscar & Georgina. There will be a practica at Jacobs tonight, but not next week - and NO CLASSES Saturday, Memorial Day weekend; you may have to get your tango fix out of town. Carol Hom gave us an excellent lesson on the basics. It was an opportunity to perfect one's tango.

Our milonga on Friday, May 30, and workshops with Oscar & Georgina, Saturday May 31, are near. Sean & Charity returned Saturday to finish work on Sacadas. In our Video of the Week they do a lesson summary on that subject. Oscar Mandagaran will also work on sacadas in an intermediate workshop on May 31.
This Saturday's instructor will be Carol Hom of San Francisco. Those familiar with Bay Area tango will recognize her as assistant to Nora Dinzelbacher, Carol has been involved in the Bay Area tango scene for years, and teaches Nora's classes when Nora is gone. She just got back from one of her numerous trips to Buenos Aires..

Ed Loomis gave us a dose of technique last Saturday. Lots to absorb, but getting those technical details into our muscle memory makes the rest of our work in tango so much easier. Sean & Charity will return Saturday to finish their rotation.

Our milonga on Friday, May 30, and workshops with Oscar & Georgina, Saturday May 31, are near. In our Video of the Week they perform "Gallo Ciego" to a live orchestra. They are touring the U.S performing and giving workshops; we will get them for just one weekend, so it behooves to avail ourselves of this opportunity. More information below.
CALENDAR FOR THE WEEK

MONDAY - Tonight. May 5 & 12: Practica and social dancing at Jacobs, 2501 McHenry. An informal chance to work on moves learned in class and get floor time. No fee, but you're urged to order off the menu. We start about 8 p.m.; some come early to dine. We may dance until 9:30 p.m. See Monday at Jacobs.

SATURDAY (May10) - Classes at Modesto Fitness and Racquet Club.
200 Norwegian, off McHenry. Sean & Charity teaching.
11 a.m.-noon. Beginner level
Intermediates invited at no additional fee to perfect technique and help beginners.
Noon-1 p.m. Intermediate Class -
1-1:45 p.m. Guided practica - An opportunity just to dance, practice what was taught in class, with instructor on hand to help.
Class: $12 per person. Practica only, $5 per person (free with class).
Introductory deals for newcomers: 10 beginner level classes for $75 (only at the beginner level.)

Oscar was introduced in this area with the touring company of "Forever Tango". You can also see him in Carlos Saura's movie "Tango." Georgina was trained as a classic and contemporary dancer. She performs in Buenos Aires, Europe and Asia. She is also known for tango vocals.

Level I - Beginning Tango - Tuesdays 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Level II - Intermediate Tango - Tuesdays 7:30-8:30 p.m.
Level III - Intermediate/Advanced Tango - Tuesdays 8:30-9:30 p.m.
These classes will get you on your way to dancing Argentine Tango socially. In Level I, you learn fundamentals of Argentine Tango: basic elements of the tango walk (caminada) and introduction of basic steps, emphasizing posture, leading and following skills, and interpreting the music. Level II focuses on pivots and turns, and how to apply all steps learned so far into the social setting. Level III changes every month but always focuses on technique, musicality, and steps appropriate to the social milonga. Argentine tango is a beautiful, passionate dance; it is our pleasure and honor to share with you a dance we love so much. Join us! Tuesday night classes taught by Donna Williams and Mark Napier.
