Alicia Pons Vals - Desde el Alma

Monday

Bulletin, Oct.30

Sean & Charity began their rotation with emphasis on musicality. We were encouraged to listen to the music more closely and move to it using simple patterns. They will continue with more complex moves over the next two weeks.

We plan to see The Leading Ladies of Tango with its 18-woman cast in San Francisco Friday, Dec. 15,
The dancers will include our own Charity Lebron as a guest artist. A seven-piece Leading Ladies Orchestra is led by Uruguayan pianist Polly Ferman, who will play Jovino Santos Neto's, Yara Luna, written specifically for this show and making its world debut. Jovino has been nominated for a 2007 Latin Grammy for Best Jazz Album. Ferman will also lead her ladies in music arranged and composed especially for this show by tango's foremost bandoneonist, Daniel Binelli, and 2006 Latin Grammy winner Pablo Ziegler, Many pieces are new or have never before been recorded.

We will get a block of 20 tickets at $38 each; if everyone invites someone it will help our community grow. Plan now and we may get several carloads. Buy tickets from Carol Benak (make the check out to her). She will need payment by Nov. 15, and can be contacted at : carolbenak@sbcglobal.net

From Patricia Thatcher / Dear Tangueros and Tangueras,
Now is the time to register for Patricia's Buenos Aires trip next February 2007 which includes a two-night extension to Iguazu Falls and the chance to participate in the city's FREE and awesome TANGO FESTIVAL with free nightly concerts with the best tango orchestras, free classes, free outdoor milongas.... I give you plenty of information to discover "your own" Buenos Aires and make it your own unique experience. We don't go around together. I let you experience Buenos Aires like a local, not with a group of tourists who stand out at milongas and cafes. We will have a few group activities, such as a day excursion to Colonia and El Tigre and a group dinner and tango show. I do not provide taxi dancers, but tell you how to go to the milongas and get asked to dance and meet the real tangueros you needn't pay for!

My goal is to show you how to experience Buenos Aires like a local. A deposit of $350 holds your spot. All info is on my website at www.infusionstravel.com. Hotel upgrades and trip extensions are possible because as you know, I own a fully registered travel agency.

February 20 to March 8, 2007 BUENOS AIRES TANGO FESTIVAL
$2,345 fourteen-night package with Iguazu Falls
$1,895 twelve-night package Buenos Aires only

Bulletin, Oct. 2

Modesto Tango is a non-profit association of tango aficionados dedicated to sharing the artistic, cultural and social aspects of Argentine Tango in Stanislaus County.
To discontinue receiving this bulletin go to
http://groups.google.com/group/Modesto-Tango/subscribe.

Our weekend with Gato & Andrea was very successful. The milonga was packed, their exhibition dance was breathtaking and Victor Meneses of the Verdi club milonga came to celebrate his birthday. There were new faces at the workshops and the lessons were great. Gato & Andrea will continue with a series of workshops on Tuesday, Thursday & Tuesday (Oct. 3, 5 & 10). Information about those to follow, and on http://modestotango.googlepages.com/

During the past week we suffered with some glitches with our new e-mail system, causing a barrage of personal replies sent to the entire group. I believe we have that ironed out now, and thank you all for putting up with it.

We resume our regular Saturday lessons this week, ie intermediate class starting at 11 a.m. Again, you can all build on what you learn in class, particularly the sort of workshops we have with Gato & Andrea with private lessons. One private lesson a month often gives more than enough material to work on; Roman makes himself available for privates as early as 8:30 on Saturday and can often stay after class. His fee is $70, and that includes the studio fee.

The Tuesday, Thursday , Tuesday workshop are $30 per class (per person),
Three workshops: $75; If you took 2 or more weekend workshops, all three are $65

Make checks out to Andrea Monti. Details in schedule below. If interested , contact me via e.mail at: fred.herman@sbcglobal.net

Tuesday, October 3 - 8 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. / Technique for men and women (all levels): We will go over changes of weight, complete molinetes, double time and balance exercises, low and high voleos; pivots, lapiz and enrosque exercises for leaders; embellishments for leaders and followers. $30.00

Thursday, October 5 - 8 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. / Tango (intermediate to advanced): We will study "barridas", sacadas, forward voleos, (simple ganchos if there is time), embellishments and combinations. $30.00
Tuesday, October 10 - 8 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. / Vals (intermediate to advanced dancers): We will start with simple patterns to introduce students to this new rhythm, then add specific turns for vals and double time patterns and turns. $30.00
